HESI A2 study guide: what to study
Last checked October 15, 2026 · 64 topics · free
The HESI A2 is modular: your program picks the sections you take. Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar and Math have 50 scored questions each; Biology, Chemistry and Anatomy & Physiology have 25 scored questions each. Elsevier doesn't say how many questions each topic gets, so cover every topic in your required sections. Many programs ask for Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar and Math, often plus Anatomy & Physiology. Check your program's list.

Good to know
- Each section includes 5 unscored pilot questions, so answer every question.
- Physics is an optional section that few programs require, and it is not in Elsevier's 2024 review book. If your program lists it, ask what to study.
- The Learning Style and Personality Profile parts are not graded, so there is nothing to study for them.
