The short answer

Elsevier makes the HESI A2 and sells a review book for one price; we didn’t find a student course from Elsevier. Mometrix, NurseHub, Smart Edition and HealthcareExams are subscriptions that renew until you cancel. All four let you cancel from your account. HealthcareExams has a 7-day refund on the first payment. Programs choose which HESI A2 sections they require, so check your list first.

Which one fits you?

You want material from the test maker

Elsevier. Its review book costs $45.99 in print and comes with online practice exams. We didn’t find a student course from Elsevier.

You learn best from videos

Mometrix, NurseHub and Smart Edition each list 100 or more videos. Elsevier’s book page lists none, and we don’t have videos.

You want to study in an app

Smart Edition lists iOS and Android apps. Mometrix and NurseHub don’t list one on the pages we checked. HealthcareExams has no app.

You don’t want a subscription

Elsevier’s book is a one-time buy. Mometrix, NurseHub, Smart Edition and HealthcareExams renew until you cancel, and all four let you cancel from your account.

You may want your money back

Mometrix refunds within 7 days, and HealthcareExams within 7 days of the first payment. NurseHub and Smart Edition don’t refund the first charge. Elsevier’s print book can go back within 30 days if unused, but its eBooks can’t be returned.

You want to try the paid version first

HealthcareExams has a 3-day free trial, and it needs a card. Mometrix and NurseHub say they don’t offer one. Elsevier and Smart Edition don’t list one.

You like flashcards

HealthcareExams has 491 free cards. Mometrix lists 550+ and Smart Edition lists hundreds in their courses.

You also need the TEAS

NurseHub plans cover HESI A2 and TEAS. HealthcareExams covers TEAS, NCLEX-RN and PTCB too.

Free teaching channels and textbooks

Quizlet sets and “real questions”

Anyone can post a Quizlet set. Quizlet’s terms say it can’t review all content, so check what you learn from it. Be careful with anything sold as real HESI questions: Elsevier’s security policy bars copying or sharing HESI exams, and misuse can cancel your results. We don’t use real exam questions.

What we don’t have

  • No videos. Our lessons are short text, and 16 have step-by-step animations.
  • No phone app.
  • No physics lessons or questions. If your program tests physics, you’ll need another source for it.
  • A smaller bank: 666 questions. The other courses list 1,000 or more.
  • One free practice test and 2 mock exams. The other courses list more.
