First, check which sections your program wants

Elsevier lets each school choose the HESI A2 sections, turn the calculator on or off, and set the timer. Two real examples:

  • Baylor UniversityMath and English (Reading, Vocabulary, Grammar)Minimum: 80 or better on Math and on the English composite
  • CNM (New Mexico)Grammar, Reading, Vocabulary, Biology, Chemistry, MathMinimum: 75% on every sub-test and a 75% composite

Requirements change. Always check your own program's page.

Sample 1Vocabulary · Health-care vocabulary · Multiple choice

Before starting the IV fluids, the nurse flushed the line to make sure it was patent. Which word or phrase is closest in meaning to patent?

  1. ACalm and willing to wait
  2. BFree of all living germs
  3. CStrong in effect
  4. DOpen and unblocked
Show the answer and why

Correct answer: D

In health care, patent means open and unobstructed, so fluid or air can pass freely. In business and law, a patent is a legal right to an invention, but the sentence about an IV line points to the "open" sense. Memory hook: a patent line has a clear path.

  • AEnduring delay calmly is the meaning of patient, a look-alike word.
  • BFree from living microorganisms is the meaning of sterile; a line can be patent without the word saying anything about germs.
  • CPowerful or strong in effect is the meaning of potent, another look-alike.
  • DCorrect: in a health-care sentence, patent means affording free passage; open and unobstructed.

Sample 2Math · Military time · Multiple choice

A lab sample is collected at 1455. The results are ready 7 hours 35 minutes later. At what time are the results ready, written in military time?

  1. A2190
  2. B2230
  3. C1030
  4. D2130
Show the answer and why

Correct answer: B

Add hours and minutes separately: 14 h + 7 h = 21 h, and 55 min + 35 min = 90 min. Because 90 minutes = 1 hour 30 minutes, carry the hour: 22 h 30 min, written 2230 (10:30 p.m.). The last two digits of a military time are minutes and must stay below 60.

  • AThis adds 1455 + 735 like ordinary numbers; 2190 is not a real time, because 90 minutes must become 1 hour 30 minutes.
  • BCorrect: 14 h 55 min + 7 h 35 min = 22 h 30 min, written 2230.
  • CThis adds on a 12-hour clock (2:55 + 7:35 = 10:30) and writes 1030 without adding 1200 for p.m.; 1030 means 10:30 a.m.
  • DThis changes 90 minutes to 30 minutes but forgets to carry the extra hour into the hours.

Who it's for

A good fit if

  • Your nursing or health program requires the HESI A2 (Elsevier's Admission Assessment).
  • You know which sections your program asks for and want to practice only those.
  • You need the health-care words on the Vocabulary section, like patent, lesion and prophylactic.
  • You need practice with HESI-style math: household and metric measures, military time, Roman numerals and dosage-style calculations.

Look elsewhere if

  • Your program uses the ATI TEAS instead. See our TEAS prep course.
  • You need Physics or Critical Thinking. These are not in our bank yet.
  • You want Elsevier's own review book. Only Elsevier publishes it.

What's free, what a plan adds

Free for everyone

Not included

  • Real HESI questions. Ours are original.
  • Physics and Critical Thinking questions, or the Learning Style and Personality Profile questionnaires
  • Live classes, video lectures or a tutor
  • A promise that you will pass. No one can honestly promise that.

What HESI A2 score do I need?

Our Math section covers whole numbers, decimals, fractions, fractions to decimals, ratios and proportions, percentages, household and metric measures, military time, Roman numerals, basic algebra, dosage-style calculations and mean, median, mode. 105 questions in all. Your school decides if you get an on-screen calculator on test day, so practice both ways.

Are these real HESI questions?

No. HealthcareExams is independent and is not connected to Elsevier. Our questions are original practice items. Elsevier sells its own HESI A2 review book.

Do I get TEAS practice too?

Yes. Every plan opens all four banks: TEAS 7, HESI A2, NCLEX-RN and PTCB. That helps if you apply to schools that use different exams.

Does the plan renew automatically?

Yes. Your plan renews at the same price until you cancel: $29 every month, $59 every 3 months or $79 every 6 months. We email you 7 days before each renewal. To stop it, press "Turn off auto-renew" in your account. You keep access until the end of the period you paid for.

Can I get my money back?

Yes. Ask within 7 days of paying and we refund the full amount, no questions asked.
